Development Process

***NOTICE***

On October 19, 2021, City Council approved a new Tree Preservation Ordinance (Ord. No. 2021-15) effective immediately. Please note that this will impact the development process for all new residential and commercial developments in Azle.

Property Status

Depending upon a property's current status, you might be required to plat, re-plat or rezone a property before you may develop it.

Zoning determines what land uses can legally be placed on the property. Rezoning a property involves several steps. The zoning process usually takes about 8 to 10 weeks. Failure to meet submittal deadlines or incomplete submittals can significantly increase the amount of time required to complete the zoning change process. Azle currently has 20 different districts that include residential, commercial and industrial zoning.

Undeveloped Property & Re-Platting

Before undeveloped property can be divided and sold, it may need to platted. Both the preliminary and final plat stages of the platting process involve several steps and generally take 6 to 8 weeks each. Property that has been previously platted may have the property lines redrawn or amended through a re-plat. This re-platting process also involves several steps and may generally be completed in about 8 to 10 weeks.
