Legal Parents Representation
The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over juveniles (16 years or younger) charged with Class C misdemeanor offenses, except Public Intoxication. All juveniles are required to appear in open court for their offense(s). The parent or legal guardian of any juvenile charged in the municipal court is required to be present with his or her child. Juveniles who fail to appear in court may have an additional charge of Failure to Appear filed against them. In addition, a hold will be placed on their driver’s license preventing them from renewing or applying for a license until the case is finally resolved.
A child and parent required to appear before the court have an obligation to provide the court in writing with the current address and residence of the child. The obligation continues until the case is finally resolved. Notification must be made in writing or appearance no later than seven (7) days following the change of address.
