Academy's Goal
The concept of the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) was started in England in 1977. It wasn't until the 1990's that the concept caught on in the United States. The Azle Police Department first began teaching academies in the late 1980's. The CPA is designed to promote better understanding and cooperation between citizens and police. The goal of the CPA is to educate citizens about the structure and activities of "their" police department. The CPA is not a training class, it is an exciting informational class, a behind the scenes look at the Azle Police Department.

The Academy is FREE and open to individuals age 21 and older who reside or work in the city. Pre-registration is required and a basic background check will be conducted.  Participants of the 13-week course meet once a week for 3 hours. Topics covered in the class include overview of the entire police organization and structure, crime prevention, criminal investigations, community policing, crime scene search, community services, less lethal weapon participation, building searches, vehicle stops, just to name a few. Upon completing the CPA, the participants will hopefully have a better understanding of the Azle Police Department.

We appreciate your interest in the department and look forward to your participation in the next academy.
