Calling 9-1-1Dispatchers
Many people can be confused about calling 9-1-1 as opposed to the regular 10 digit telephone number to reach Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services.

The Tarrant 9-1-1 Services District is funded by a fee which is attached to your telephone bill. This funding provides local Public Safety Answering Points or PSAPs. These PSAPs are at selected Police, Fire and Sheriff’s facilities and 9-1-1 is answered by the same communications personnel as the 10 digit telephone number. When a 9-1-1 call is received, the telephone number of the caller is displayed on the Communications Center computer screen. For telephones installed at a residence or business, the name and address is also displayed. Communications personnel will verify this information and ask you to state your emergency. Cell phone callers will be asked for a location and nature of the emergency as well as your identifying information.

Accurate information is essential in dispatching the correct and appropriate assistance.

Since 9-1-1 calls receive priority, please use this service only in emergency situations. Call 817-444-3221 for non-emergencies such as asking questions or speaking with a police or fire employee.

For additional information and to see how 9-1-1 can work for you, go to the Public Education / Awareness website.
